Solid state flash drives (SSDs) will be the standard format for hard drives before too long as soon as the prices come down thanks to continual innovations in the flash memory field. Samsung is leading the charge in this arena, announcing a new set of drives that would make any laptop they were placed in faster and more efficient.
The latest drives are 2.5 and 1.8-inch SSDs that will store 64GB of your digital goodies. While no pricing has been announced as of yet, it's safe to assume that they'll still be prohibitively expensive for most people. But the fact that they keep making them shows that we can expect larger hard drives in flash-based devices such as the iPhone as well as more laptops coming with the SSD drives loaded inside. Patience is a virtue, my friends.
