We got a chance to check out Wired magazine's NextFest here in New York City last night, and, in addition to overdoing it on the plentiful tacos, we experienced some serious futuristic technology that the Javits Center will be showing off this weekend when they open the doors to the general public. After the jump, check out some cameraphone shots of the coolest displays. If you want to see this stuff in person, go on over to the NextFest site and grab your tickets now. There are lots of interactive games and exhibits, so it could be a fun way to kill an afternoon you otherwise would spend playing Xbox.

Remember when I wrote about the scary female Korean robot a while back? Well, I met her cousin last night, and she's a hell of a lot more unsettling in person than she is in photos. When she looks right into your eyes you can't help but have an urge to run screaming to the awaiting arms of a caterer. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

This is the Hy-Wire concept car from GM, a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle with the engine built underneath the passenger compartment. This gives you a ton of room and allows the windshield to go all the way down to the driver's feet. We wanted to get in and see how it felt, but the tricky devils had it sitting in the middle of a pool of water, keeping our greasy fingerprints off the shiny finish.

This here is what a gas pump would look like if you drove the above hydrogen-powered vehicle. I guess. It really just looks like a normal gas pump with new stickers on it, but hey, it's neat to look at.

This Power Assist Suit is designed to help immobile patients move around a hospital from one bed to another. It uses compressed air to move around and can guage how much air to release using sensors taped to the user's muscles.

Hey, there were so many better things at NextFest than that daft DJ robot. All it can do it play the same 8 records backwards all day. Most annoying use of technology since the Crazy Frog.
